My Story
Dr. Carlton’s Story
Dr. Ed Carlton is a licensed chiropractor and certified neurofeedback provider who treats children and adults to improve performance and relieve symptoms from brain-based disorders that affect attention, mood, sleep, anxiety, depression, and more. He is a certified neurofeedback provider from the Biofeedback Certification International Alliance and a member of the International Society for Neurofeedback and Research. He graduated from the Texas Chiropractic College and is also a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin.
From Engineering to Chiropractic Health
He began his career as a mechanical engineer where he enjoyed learning about processes and systems related to heavy industry. An unexpected severe back injury led him to seek chiropractic care, which inspired his attending and graduate from Chiropractic school. As a licensed chiropractor since 1990, he was able to apply his engineering mindset to diagnose and treat neuromuscular disorders that affect health and well-being. He and his wife, also a chiropractor, established a successful practice, Carlton Chiropractic, in Manassas Virginia where they raised their family.
Struggles with Bipolar Disorder
After struggling with milder symptoms of bipolar disorder all of his life, Dr. Carlton began to suffer severe episodes of bipolar disorder that affected his health, well-being, family, and work. He sought medication to bring it under control, which caused side effects and did not seem to remedy the symptoms completely. Again, he searched for answers to improve his health. At a professional development conference, he learned about neurofeedback training and was able to experience it firsthand. From there, he sought neurofeedback training for himself and experienced profound relief, eventually eliminating his need for medications.
A New Direction with Neurofeedback Training
Following his heart, and intending to share the hope and healing he found with neurofeedback training from his own personal experience, he sought the training, equipment, and certification to begin offering neurofeedback to his patients full-time. Thus, he established the Carlton Neurofeedback Center and sees this technology as potentially one of the most life-changing, non-invasive, long-lasting technological innovations to help children and adults with many different kinds of neurological, performance, and emotional challenges.
